Goodtype has been serving up inspiration and connecting type designers, letterers, and calligraphers for almost 10 years. Now it’s time to bring our global community even closer together with a FREE 1-day virtual event that celebrates our mutual love of letters. 


The Kernference
is an online conference featuring talks, & demos from the industry’s top players as well as rising talent. Whether you’re excited to get super nerdy about type and hone your skills or you’re looking to grow your career or art business…we’ve got you covered.

    Ilana Griffo & Katie Johnson

    Katie and Ilana are your hosts and the co-owners behind Goodtype! They met after some serious DM’s and started working together to help educate artists on growing their creative businesses.

  • Jimbo Bernaus

    Jimbo Bernaus

    Jimbo Bernaus is lettering artist and Co-Founder of Shoutbam Deisgn Studio. He is known for his expertise in iPad lettering and Illustration. He has a strong presence in the content creation community, where he shares his knowledge and skills through Lettering Courses and Tutorials. He is also recognized for his collaborations with brands like Booking.com, Stabilo, Espresso Displays, Paperlike, OmniCharge, among others.

  • Jessica Molina

    Jessica Molina

    Jessica Molina is a Nicaraguan-American lettering artist and illustrator based in Dallas, Texas. Her mix of expressive lettering, striking illustrations, and vibrant colors create pieces full of beauty and boldness. Her work has attracted a wide range of clients like Target, Snapchat, Sol de Janeiro, Toyota, The LA Times, and more.

  • Adam Vicarel

    Adam Vicarel

    Adam Vicarel is the Principal and Creative Director at Vicarel Studios, a hybrid creative studio focused on the artful implementation of strategic design. Specializing in hand-drawn branding, lettering and typography, his work is used to develop uniquely approachable branding, packaging, marketing campaigns, and murals. Adam’s approach to creative problem solving has enabled him to craft provocative brands and artful experiences for partners such as NBC, lululemon, Twitter, Sharpie, SyFy Network and New Belgium Brewing.

  • Mat Voyce

    Mat Voyce

    Mat is your friendly neighbourhood type designer & animator. He specialises in 2D type animation and is mainly known for his pioneering style exploring illustrative kinetic typography. Mat will walk us through his own story of pure experimentation, risk and ‘spamming the world with his type work’. We’ll see how he turned a side passion for typography into a popular niche of motion design and how he’s helped bring campaigns to life across the globe.

    Dan Lee

    Dan is a graphic designer, illustrator, and writer who specializes in hand lettering, merch design, and brand consulting. He's excited to share about creative process whenever humanly possible.

    Kate Christy

    Kate is the brand and web designer behind the screen at Folk Founded. She loves building websites that look good and work hard. She’ll be sharing insights on how to build a strategic website portfolio with case studies that show off more than just your design chops.

It’s virtual! You can join from anywhere in the world.

This event is 100% FREE. $0. You can even watch the replays for free too. We do have a limit for how many people can join live, so be sure to login on time. If you aren’t able to join, you’ll be sent the replays to watch on your own time.

WHAT TIME ZONE IS THE KERNFERENCE SCHEDULE USING?

The times on the schedule above are in EDT (Eastern Daylight Time).

Will there be replays?

Yes! Every ticket includes access to session replays.

What if I can’t make it live?

You can still grab a ticket so you can access the replays! Remember, they’ll be available to watch for 1 whole month after The Kernference ends.

Who should attend?

We’ve invited a wide variety of artists to speak at The Kernference, and anyone who uses type in their work in any way will find the sessions relevant and helpful! Our lineup of speakers includes everyone from lettering artists, type designers, and calligraphers, to marketing specialists, entrepreneurs, and authors. All are welcome!

Do I need any special tools or software to attend or participate in the sessions?

Nope! Some of the speakers may reference various tools or apps that they use, but you’re not required to purchase anything to follow along! As for the conference itself—all you need is a link to join from your desktop.
